As part of Bowel Cancer Awareness month, we’re running a series of mini-blogs from cancer experts. Here’s the next instalment from the Detect Cancer Early team.
I would like the public to know…they’re not alone.
The bowel screening test is completed in the comfort of your own home. It’s therefore no surprise that many people feel like they’re the only one that’s asked to do it.
The postman makes a special delivery every two years from your 50th birthday. Indeed, it’s not something you want to shout about from the rooftop, but rest assured many of those around you are in the same boat.
In fact, every year in Scotland over half a million people do their bowel screening test. Why? They know it could save their life.
Liz Harris from Rutherglen is just one of these people. Fred MacAulay (who also does his test when he receives it) recently surprised her at home to hear about her story, in the hope it would encourage others to consider doing their test next time it drops through their letterbox. You can watch what happened here or on the wee c Facebook page.
More people in Scotland are doing their test than ever before – join the bowel movement! www.getcheckedearly.org.
